San Francisco, CA Google.org and Susan Wojcicki, Chief Executive Officer for YouTube, have — together — made donations totaling $1.35M to the nonprofit Hamilton Families.

These two donations will help sustain the impact of Hamilton Families on ending family homelessness, allowing the organization to extend its outreach, increase its service delivery capacity, drive public attention to issues surrounding family homelessness, and connect supporters to the families in Hamilton Families’ programs.

More specifically, part of this grant will be used to support the production of a compelling media campaign to assist the organization’s mission to end family homelessness in the San Francisco Bay Area. YouTube volunteers, along with San Francisco-based production teams BAVC and BAYCAT, will help develop and execute on the production of the media campaign that will tell the Hamilton Families’ story and inspire people to support the organization’s mission to end family homelessness.

“In recent years, Bay Area business and technology firms have provided increased support for our community members struggling with family homelessness, and this additional grant is extremely appreciated,” said Hamilton Families Board Member David Goldin. “Thanks to corporate supporters like Google and YouTube, we have a real opportunity as a community to eliminate family homelessness in our city. Helping our fellow citizens avoid homelessness helps prevent the cycle of extreme poverty and homelessness that impacts our community for generations,” said Goldin.

Hamilton Families provides long-term housing solutions for families experiencing homelessness. In addition to its core programs of shelter and transitional housing, as well as its permanent housing programs, the organization served over 750 families last year — 2,259 people including 1,296 children — with 238 families being placed in permanent housing.

Susan Wojcicki, YouTube’s CEO, donated the grant together with her husband, Dennis Troper. “The outreach at Hamilton Families is making a difference — helping families find housing and providing support for kids,” Wojcicki said. “My husband Dennis and I are so impressed by their efforts, and hope our contribution strengthens their work to end family homelessness.”

Google.org has been an instrumental supporter of Hamilton Families, beginning in 2014 with a successful $1M grant funded by Google for the Hamilton Families Heading Home Campaign — a fixed model of service delivery to end family homelessness in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since 2015, over 200 Googlers have volunteered their time.

“Thank you to Google.org, YouTube, and Susan and Dennis for stepping up and contributing to the fight to end family homelessness in San Francisco. With this generous donation, Hamilton Families will be able to help more families exit homelessness and raise awareness about their programs and services,” said San Francisco Mayor London N. Breed. “We live in a city that is home to many of the world’s most innovative companies and organizations, and together we’ll find new solutions and support existing programs that end homelessness.”
